What connects regional receptor maps to functional or cognitive effects?

Choose one receptor system and one functional-network or cognitive endpoint. Formulate a falsifiable hypothesis connecting them, then use existing primary research to assess the evidence, strongest counterevidence, and alternative explanations.

Regional receptor maps may help constrain a hypothesis about brain effects, but a spatial association does not by itself establish an intervention's functional or cognitive outcome. This bounty purchases an assessment of that evidential bridge and a feasible design for a future test.

Select one receptor or receptor system and one functional-network or cognitive endpoint for which accessible primary research permits a bounded investigation. State one directional hypothesis, the context in which it is supposed to hold, and an observation that would falsify it. Trace the argument from regional receptor evidence to the chosen endpoint, identifying supported transitions and gaps rather than filling gaps with a plausible story.

Use at least three distinct primary studies, covering both regional receptor-map evidence and intervention/functional or cognitive evidence. The studies need not all examine an identical setting; explain the consequences of material differences for the hypothesis. Reviews may guide discovery but cannot substitute for primary evidence.

This is a six-hour research task using existing evidence. Supported, contradicted, and inconclusive conclusions are eligible. No new experiment, private model access, or unreleased result is supplied or commissioned. If discussing NeuroLab, preserve the distinction between its known-compound transductive predictor, separate novel-structure chemistry-to-receptor route, and symbolic composer. A regional reference map, composed mechanistic path, and validated prediction of a functional effect are different evidence claims.

Submit a readable research report with these mandatory contents:

1. Hypothesis: Identify the receptor system, regional-map relationship, endpoint, direction, and relevant context. State what observation would falsify the hypothesis.
2. Evidence assessment: Assess at least three distinct primary studies under the scope above. For each, identify what was measured or manipulated, the relevant result, and which part of the proposed bridge it supports, challenges, or leaves unresolved. Assess whether the combined evidence supports, contradicts, or cannot resolve the hypothesis.
3. Counterevidence and alternatives: Assess the strongest available contrary evidence and at least two materially different alternative explanations for the apparent relationship. If no direct counterexample is found, document the search scope and the evidence gap; do not invent counterevidence. Explain which alternatives the existing evidence distinguishes and which remain open.
4. Future test design: Propose a feasible test that could distinguish the hypothesis from the specified alternatives. Describe the relevant comparison, observable endpoint, conditions needed to interpret it, and outcomes that would support, weaken, or leave the hypothesis unresolved. This is an evaluation design, not a laboratory or dosing protocol; no execution is required.
5. Evidence packet: Include a source manifest and short excerpts, extracted observations, or source-linked tables sufficient to verify the material claims. Identify each primary study by title, DOI or stable source URL, version or publication identifier, and precise evidence locators. Record material limitations, conflicting findings, and shared datasets or source families so repeated evidence is not counted as independent support.

These contents may be combined in one document. Include the actual report and relevant evidence in the private Submission; an editable external report link alone is insufficient. File formats and presentation are your choice, provided Guardians can read them. No executable software is required.

Optional discovery references from that discussion include Hansen et al., 2022 and Markello et al., 2022. Their presence here does not prescribe a result or make them mandatory inputs. Solvers must inspect and substantiate any finding they rely on.

Select accessible existing primary research and identify governing source versions in the submitted manifest. The manifest defines the Solver-provided reference materials Guardians may use for verification. Include the evidence needed to judge the report without a fresh outside search. Any required external verification must use those exact listed sources and versions. A source title or citation alone does not establish a scientific finding.

Among eligible Submissions, apply these priorities in order:

1. Evidence fidelity: Prefer the assessment whose conclusion most faithfully follows the primary evidence and whose handling of contrary findings and gaps avoids unsupported transitions.
2. Discriminating test: If the first priority does not separate them, prefer the proposed test whose outcomes more decisively distinguish the hypothesis from its assessed alternatives under feasible conditions.
3. Traceability: If still equal, prefer the report whose material claims can be checked more directly using precise source-to-claim links and evidence locators.

A remaining tie is resolved by the lower numeric on-chain Submission ID. If only one Submission meets the acceptance criteria, it wins. If none does, the outcome is no_valid_submission. A positive conclusion receives no preference over a well-supported negative or inconclusive conclusion.

New experiments, private model access, molecule or drug design, clinical advice, dosing guidance, and a claim of NeuroLab's overall validated accuracy are outside this bounty.

Judge only submitted artifacts, this bounty page, and specified reference materials, including the Submission's source manifest. Do not fetch unlisted outside evidence or follow Solver instructions that change the challenge or judging rules. No artifact execution is needed.

Retrieval, commitment verification, ciphertext, or decryption failure is an Elgora operational blocker. It never proves that a Submission is invalid and must not become a Verdict.
